Presenting our recent project in Brighton, Victoria, landscaped by Jack Merlo Landscape & Design. This modern landscape features a variety of hedging, screening, and feature trees, all supplied based on Jack Merlo's plant schedule. Our client's brief was clear: they wanted to prioritize privacy while adding a touch of luxury and grandeur to the area. They also sought to create a green backdrop visible from the kitchen and living room. In response, we curated a selection of trees and plants to meet these needs, resulting in an ultra-modern outdoor space that perfectly complements the home's sophisticated aesthetic.    Syzygium 'Backyard Bliss' - Lilly Pilly 'Backyard Bliss' Lilly Pilly has been used in the Brighton project as a practical and attractive privacy screen above the pool. Its dense, evergreen foliage provides year-round privacy, it's fast-growing, and its non-invasive roots make it ideal for poolside placement. This low-maintenance Australian native is perfect for similar projects needing quick, reliable privacy with minimal upkeep. Key Facts: Uses: Ideal for hedging around pools or creating boundaries, offering both privacy and aesthetic appeal. Mature Height: Typically growing up to 3-4 meters in height Mature Width: Approx 2-3m wide Growth Rate & Form: Fast Foliage: Evergreen foliage with glossy green leaves, maintaining a lush and green appearance year-round. These plants bring a contemporary edge to the garden with their large, glossy leaves that resemble tractor seats. Their clump-forming habit provides lush, ground-level interest and complements the taller hedging plants by adding texture and depth to the planting scheme. Horizon House in Flinders blends nature with bold architectural design, using natural elements to enhance its modern aesthetic. Acer Palmatum (Japanese Maple) lines the walkway to the entrance, adding warmth and visual interest that complements the minimalist architecture. Prunus Lusitanica (Portuguese Laurel) provides lush screening while maintaining structure. Its deep green foliage contrasts with the architecture, adding privacy and enhancing the entrance.This landscape exemplifies how modern architecture and thoughtful planting create a striking and functional space. Horizon House: Japanese Black Pine Adds Bold Character Another view of Horizon House features the Pinus Thunbergii (Japanese Black Pine). Placed in a modern pot, its rugged, twisting branches add dynamic movement, contrasting the strong architectural lines. The Japanese Black Pine complements the concrete and glass elements, adding an organic, sculptural element. Its unique form nods to traditional Japanese garden principles, blending classic design with modern architecture. It contributes significantly to the garden's structural design, offering a living green barrier that creates tranquil and secluded spaces. Key Facts: Uses: Ideal for creating lush hedges or privacy screens, their dense foliage offers an effective sound barrier and windbreak. Mature Height & Width: Capable of reaching impressive heights up to 15-20m with a width of 3-4m. Growth Rate & Form: Fast-growing with a columnar to pyramidal form, they provide immediate vertical interest. Foliage: Deep green, scale-like leaves persist year-round, offering constant verdure.
